CLEANSING YOUR HAIR WITH CLAY

Gone are the days when you only had a little bottle of shampoo to cleanse your hair. There are alternate methods available if you are not happy with your shampoo and conditioner regimen. Yes, we are talking about clay cleansing. Not the clay your children use to create cute, little castles but the one especially designed for getting dirt and grime out of your hair. Infact, clay could prove to be a better option than shampoo and co-washing products. Go through our blog below to find out why.

Advantages of Clay Cleansing

The use of clay as a powerful detoxifier has been known for ages. Due to its distinctive composition, clay traps dust, dirt, pollutants, toxins and microbes. It can be used as a detoxifier both for external and internal purposes. When used for cleansing the hair, clay removes grime, oil and product build-up without stripping them.

Why prefer Clay over Shampoo?

Almost all shampoos contain surfactants such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) and Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate (ALS). They are very effective in stripping away natural oils of the hair. SLS has particularly been proved to be very harmful for both our hair and skin. On the other hand, clay cleanses the hair without taking away the natural oils. Unlike shampoos, it keeps the hair moisturized. It removes toxins easily as compared to the shampoo.

Which Clay is the best?

The types of clay usually used for hair cleansing are Bentonite and Rhassoul. Bentonite has a high negative charge; therefore it strongly attracts unnecessary toxins from the hair. There is no need to use conditioner to rinse it out of the hair as it is an amazing conditioner itself. Rhassoul clay cleanses off dirt from your hair and scalp, keeps them moisturized and gives them a shine like no shampoo does.

Things to remember

There are a few things to keep in mind while using clay to cleanse your hair. Use plastic utensils, avoid metal bowls and spoons. Apply section wise with your hands. Don’t let the clay solidify over your hair otherwise it would be difficult to rinse it out.

Make your own Clay Cleanser

Clay maybe easily available but a good clay cleanser will be hard to find. Homemade clay cleanser is undoubtedly the best option, search the internet and plenty of youtube videos will show you how. This way, you will know what kind of ingredients your hair are being subjected to and what actually works on your hair.

You don’t have to cleanse your hair with clay everytime they need a wash. Use it as an occasional treat for your hair when they feel too dry.
